How Much Does TRT Cost in the UK? NHS and Private Costs Explained

NHS assessment and specialist care are generally provided without a private consultation fee, but access depends on clinical need, local pathways and waiting times. A GP may assess symptoms, arrange blood tests and refer to endocrinology or another appropriate service when results and the wider clinical picture justify it. A subscription can make budgeting predictable when it genuinely includes medicine, blood tests, reviews and prescription administration. It may be poor value if key items are charged separately, if the minimum term is long, or if the plan continues unchanged when treatment is paused. Pay-as-you-go pricing can be transparent but may create larger bills around monitoring dates.

Request a written example of the total cost for the first 12 months and a stable subsequent year. The first year is often different because diagnosis and early review require more activity. Check cancellation terms, ownership of your records, prescription arrangements and what happens if you transfer to another clinician.

TRT may be long-term, so the most useful figure is the total cost of a safe pathway that you can sustain. Delayed blood tests, unreviewed side effects or medicine obtained outside a regulated route can create health risks and larger costs later.
